The word psoriasis comes from the Greek root psora, which means “the itch.”
This is a problematic skin condition to treat. It is caused by an excessive build-up of cells in the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis.
Keratinocytes are epidermal skin cells that produce keratin, a tough protein that helps form nails and skin.
In average cellular growth, these keratinocytes move from the bottom layer to the skin’s surface unnoticed, a cellular turnover process that takes around 4 to 6 weeks.
Those with psoriasis have a condition in which the keratinocytes tend to multiply very rapidly.
They travel from the basal layer to the skin’s surface in three to four days. Because the skin cannot shed the cells quickly, they build up rapidly, leaving a thick, dry plaque.
This build-up causes the dermis to become red and swollen.
Conventional medical treatments and products include coal tar, salicylic acid, zinc, and psoralen. Interestingly, when accompanied by ultraviolet light radiation, psoralen has been proven to relieve sufferers.
The following recipe contains natural home remedies involving botanicals: jojoba and squalane, which are similar to your skin’s composition.
This will help replenish what is missing. The essential oil bergamot also naturally contains psoralen.
Hyperactive sebaceous glands in oily skin cause this inflammatory skin disease, and fungal yeast organisms are always in the inflammation.
It most often affects the scalp, forehead, and sides of the nose, spreading out across the face.
It causes scaly, red patches on the face and upper body, and sufferers often experience an unpleasant burning sensation.
This condition results from an allergy or autoimmune reaction that can be controlled with treatment but is not fully cured.
Some antibacterial essential oils work well on the skin to regulate oil production, controlling the number of bacteria and yeast active on the skin.
Tea tree oil is antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory, making it ideal for seborrheic dermatitis. It produces excellent results when blended with an astringent carrier oil such as hazelnut oil.
This is a frustrating condition to treat. Often referred to as dermatitis, it has many symptoms that can be present within your skin at any one time, including rashes, swelling, blistering, weeping, itching, and scaling.
We have written an e-book article dedicated to this condition, which you can download here.
Essential oils work well for this skin condition. Chamomile combined with two to three antifungal-viral oils, such as lemon, niaouli, and rosewood, are effective.
These oils can be blended with anti-inflammatory botanical oils such as calendula, vitamin E, evening primrose oil, or rosehip seed oil, which are beneficial for this particular skin condition.
Within our range, we also have a couple of healing balms that calm, soothe, and help take the fire out of the itch.
These balms are formulated with gorgeous natural herbs, butter, and botanical oils.
In conclusion, natural home remedies offer a gentle and non-invasive way to manage various skin conditions.
For those dealing with issues like psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, or eczema, these remedies can provide relief by addressing the root causes of inflammation without exacerbating it.
Unlike conventional treatments that might trigger further irritation, natural ingredients such as jojoba, squalane, chamomile, and tea tree oil work harmoniously with the skin.
While results may vary, these remedies are a safe alternative, especially for maintaining healthier, calmer skin over time.
