What is the Shelf Life of your products?

When stored in a cool, dark environment, our products maintain their efficacy and freshness, ensuring a guaranteed shelf life of 18 months. Correct storage conditions help preserve the integrity of the ingredients and extend the usability of our skincare formulations.

Does The Naked Chemist Recommend Sunscreen Products?

We strongly advise incorporating SPF products into your skincare regimen, as UV rays and pollution primarily contribute to premature ageing. While our current product range does not include an SPF option, we encourage you to seek out an SPF product suitable for your skin type and needs.

For individuals with sensitive skin, we recommend selecting an SPF with zinc or sunscreen with a rating of around 15 to 20 rather than opting for higher SPF levels. This choice is important as higher SPF formulations typically contain more chemicals, which can potentially irritate the skin. Conversely, lower SPF options offer fewer chemicals, thus reducing the likelihood of irritation. Remember to reapply SPF regularly for optimal protection against harmful UV rays.

Why Do You Use Skin-identical Ingredients in Your Formulas?

At the core of our philosophy is the principle of treating ‘like with like’. As a living organ, we recognise that your skin responds best to ingredients that mimic its natural composition.

Some of our botanical formulations are enriched with skin-identical ingredients—naturally occurring substances in your skin. These ingredients work synergistically with your skin’s physiology, seamlessly integrating and metabolising to support its health and vitality.

By incorporating these skin-compatible ingredients, we aim to preserve your skin’s youthfulness while providing essential building blocks for barrier protection and cellular repair.

In our approach, we prioritise three types of ingredients renowned for their efficacy in nurturing the outermost layer of your skin:

  • Fatty Acids
  • Ceramides (lipids)
  • Cholesterol

Beneath this surface layer, your skin’s natural moisturising factor (NMF) comprises moisture-retaining humectants crucial for maintaining hydration and suppleness. These include:

  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Glycerin
  • Sodium PCA
  • Lactic acid
  • Amino acids (including proteins like collagen)

These bio-identical ingredients are pivotal in addressing various skin conditions, such as compromised barriers, premature ageing, and sensitivities like acne inflammation, psoriasis, rosacea, and eczema.

By utilising skin-identical ingredients that your body readily recognises, the risk of adverse skin reactions is significantly minimised, ensuring optimal compatibility and efficacy in addressing your skin concerns.

Does The Naked Chemist Use Essential Oils in their Formulas?

Samantha, the founder, dedicated three years to studying beauty and spa management, followed by an additional two years focusing on clinical aromatherapy under the renowned guidance of Shirley Price. This extensive training equipped her with a profound understanding of the molecular structure of essential oils. Those that have a natural affinity with skin are included in the following formulas:

Reset age-defying cream harnesses pure rose essential oil. Barrier Repair Balm is formulated with healing blue tansy for its chamazulene properties. This non-irritating essential oil is renowned for calming, healing, and soothing sensitive skin, ensuring a gentle yet effective skincare solution. Nectar antioxidant balm contains manuka essential oil, a potent antibacterial that heals, calms, and soothes the skin.

Due to the potential for irritation caused by fragrances, we do not include them in our formulas.

Nature is ever-changing, and these natural variations may manifest, particularly in our raw ingredients.

Should you observe minor differences in our products between batches, rest assured that these variations reflect our commitment at the Naked Chemist to sourcing ingredients that are fresh and as natural as possible

What is The Naked Chemist Recommendation for Combination Skin?

Combination skin occurs when you experience multiple skin issues simultaneously.

The T-zone, comprising the central panel of your face—nose, chin, and forehead—hosts more sebaceous glands than other areas, often resulting in enlarged pores, shiny skin, and blackheads. Conversely, the cheeks tend to be drier and occasionally flaky.

For detailed insights into managing this skin type, explore our comprehensive article.

Introducing our products tailored for combination skin:

Miracle Cleanse: An oil-to-water, barrier-restoring cleanser enriched with healing cold-pressed oils, lipids, vitamins, omegas, and herbs. It protects and cleanses, leaving a nourishing film that aids conditions like eczema and impaired barrier function.

What is The Naked Chemist Recommendation for Acne?

Acne is multifactorial, influenced by hormones, genetics, diet, bacteria, stress, and astringent ingredients, all contributing to varying degrees. It leads to an overproduction of oil (sebum). Accumulation of skin cells can clog pores, creating an optimal environment for bacterial growth.

This build-up within pores can lead to infection and inflammation, resulting in pimples, papules, pustules, and cystic acne. Our clinical-grade skincare significantly reduces the likelihood of acne and blocked pores, aiding in naturally balancing your skin.

Introducing our products designed to combat acne:

Clarify pH Balancing Gel: This potent regulator and normaliser contains salicylic, cucumber, willow herb extract and antibacterial botanicals, effectively reducing oil production and inhibiting acne-causing bacteria. Dehydration, common with oily skin, can exacerbate oil production. It is formulated in a hyaluronic acid-rich gel base to balance and hydrate the skin.

B+ Skin Shot: Effectively balances blemished skin, addressing dark spots resulting from blemishes (post-inflammatory pigmentation) and combating signs of premature ageing.

A+ Skin Shot: Clears, strengthens, and balances oily skin, addressing shine, blemishes, and enlarged pores. A crucial addition to your skincare routine for preventing premature ageing.

Resq Skin Shot: A fast-acting treatment that reduces existing blemishes and acne by drying breakouts. Its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties target bacteria to prevent spread, thus reducing the likelihood of further breakouts.

H2O Skin Shot: A pure form of high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid that boosts the skin’s hydration. Stimulating natural hyaluronan synthesis enhances the skin’s water-binding capacity, making it an ideal post-treatment product, especially after microneedling.

Dry skin lacks oil, often resulting in flakiness and roughness. Therefore, it benefits from emollients and water-based formulas. What is The Naked Chemist Recommendation for Dehydrated Skin?

Dehydrated skin is complex, lacking water in the epidermis – the outer layer of skin. Focusing on structures responsible for water retention and balance is crucial. Inadequate hydration compromises the skin’s barrier function, leading to various skin conditions. Further discussion on dehydration can be found in the following articles: here and here.

What is The Naked Chemist Routine for Ageing?

As you age, your skin becomes thinner and drier, with essential ingredients such as ceramides, lipids, hyaluronic acid, and cholesterol naturally depleting. For instance, hyaluronic acid reduces by 50% by the age of 50, emphasising the importance of replenishing it.

At the Naked Chemist, our philosophy is to treat ‘like with like’ by incorporating skin-identical ingredients into our formulas.

It’s crucial to understand that inflammation underlies all premature ageing. Therefore, if you feel your skin’s barrier has been compromised, we recommend rebuilding it first. Once rebuilt, you can target ageing concerns with cosmeceuticals containing actives like Vitamin A and peptides.

Miracle Cleanse: An oil-to-water, barrier-restoring cleanser containing healing cold-pressed oils, lipids, vitamins, omegas, and herbs. It protects as it cleanses, leaving a protective film over the skin, easing conditions such as eczema and impaired barrier function.

Reset Age Defying Cream: It contains nine skin-identical ingredients that integrate with the skin’s barrier, replenishing what’s lost with age and trauma and creating a protective second skin.

Betox Skin Shot: Reshapes and redefines facial contours by limiting facial micro-contractions that cause expression lines.

What is The Naked Chemist Recommendation for Microneedled Skin?

“We receive at least five emails daily concerning microneedling treatments that have gone awry, leading to devastating consequences for many individuals. This is why we aim to raise awareness. We’ve compiled a comprehensive resource of articles for you to read here.

You may also find our ebook useful, which also outlines the products you should use during and after microneedling treatment.

What is The Naked Chemist Recommendation for Pigmentation?

Treating hyperpigmentation, whether it’s dark spots, melasma, chloasma, or uneven skin tone, can be challenging due to its deep-rooted nature in the dermis. Many ingredients struggle to break down melanin effectively, and aggressive solutions like hydroquinone can sometimes exacerbate the issue.

Our formulas offer a natural, safe, and fast-acting approach to addressing hyperpigmentation:

Glo Skin Shot: This formula brightens and diminishes hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase action, which is responsible for dark patches of melanin on the skin’s surface. It also smooths the skin and helps to remove surface dryness.

C+ Skin Shot: Addressing various issues associated with premature ageing, including hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, fine lines, and loss of elasticity, this formula promotes a more youthful and glowing complexion. Its combination of antioxidants and malic acid helps prevent premature ageing while effectively removing stubborn pigment from the skin.

Betox Skin Shot: This formulation contains potent tyrosinase inhibitors that work in the deeper layers of the skin to remove dark spots and brighten the skin effectively by inhibiting tyrosinase action, which is responsible for dark patches of melanin on the skin’s surface. Additionally, potent antioxidants are included to protect against oxidative damage, thus preventing premature ageing.

Check out our routine for eliminating dark spots here.

How Often Should I Exfoliate?

The frequency of exfoliation depends on individual factors such as skin type and concerns. Here’s a general guide:

Oily/Combination Skin: Exfoliate once or twice a week.
Dry/Dehydrated, Mature Skin: Exfoliate twice a week.
Sensitive/Rosacea/Eczema Skin: Exfoliate once a week or less, especially if you have hyper-sensitive skin.
Acne-Blemish Prone Skin: Exfoliate once weekly or less, particularly if you experience associated inflammation.

Why are Vitamins A, B, and C Important for my Skin?

Topical application of vitamins can significantly contribute to correcting and preventing various skin concerns.

Vitamin A: Retinoids belong to the Vitamin A family and are considered the “gold standard” in anti-ageing ingredients. Extensively researched, they effectively address various skin disorders such as acne, pigmentation, psoriasis, sun damage, regulation of oil glands, cellular turnover, and fine lines. The form of vitamin A we utilise has undergone thorough research, ensuring high stability, effectiveness, and non-irritation upon skin application.

For further reading on Vitamin A, check out our article here.

Vitamin B3: Niacinamide, a multitasking ingredient, is crucial for cellular energy production. It addresses a range of skin conditions, serving as a precursor to essential skin compounds like collagen, involucrin, filaggrin, and keratin. Niacinamide is ideal for controlling excess oil, reducing inflammation and pigmentation, strengthening the skin’s barrier function, re-texturising the skin, and reversing visible signs of ageing.

Vitamin B5: Pantothenic acid, also known as Vitamin B5, is a water-soluble vitamin with dual functions. It acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin and an emollient, sealing in that moisture. As an emollient, it effectively heals dry, damaged skin. Meanwhile, as a humectant, it attracts and binds water to the skin, promoting moisture retention and resulting in a plump, hydrated appearance. Follow the link to learn more.

Vitamin C: L-ascorbic acid is a potent antioxidant that shields cells from internal damage. Skin cells recognise it as the sole form of Vitamin C, making it the quintessential anti-ageing ingredient. L-ascorbic acid targets dullness, dryness, sun spots, uneven skin tone, and loss of elasticity, revitalising the skin’s appearance and texture. Our article discusses vitamin C in greater detail.

Vitamin E: From fighting free radical damage to keeping wrinkles at bay, topical vitamin E is a skincare staple for a reason. As an antioxidant, it protects the skin from UV damage and lipid oxidation and helps replenish other antioxidants, such as vitamin C. The other unique feature of vitamin E is its role in maintaining a healthy skin barrier. It acts like an emollient or glue, “holding together the building blocks of the epidermis — ceramides, cholesterol, and fats.
