Shipping

What are your shipping charges?

We discuss this in detail here.

Do I have to pay extra customs duties or tariffs when ordering from the USA?

No. You won’t pay a cent more at your door.

We ship all U.S. orders Delivered Duty Paid, which means we cover the import duties, the U.S. baseline tariff and any other customs fees that apply. Not you.

The price you see at checkout is the final price. Taxes, tariffs and shipping are all included upfront — nothing to settle before your parcel is released, and no bill arriving a week later.

About

Who is the Naked Chemist?

Hi, my name is Samantha.

For thirty years I’ve worked as a clinical aesthetician and educator, and I’ve touched over twenty thousand faces. And everything in my range comes from that experience.

What I learned is that most skincare treats the wrong thing. It chases dryness when the problem is inflammation. It strips oily skin that is actually dehydrated. They upsell more when the skin needs to be left alone. So we’ve built it the other way round. Every formulation starts from what I’ve seen working on real skin.

The Naked Chemist has always been so much more than just the products  — it’s about the deeper transformation that brings about inner confidence and natural beauty.

So it’s time to defy the dry. Banish breakouts and soften the look of premature ageing — and put your face in our hands.

Samantha

Does the Naked Chemist offer consultations

Yes. We can hold a complimentary consultation via Zoom. Or we can do a full skin analysis and treatment plan; the 60-minute consultation is in-clinic.

What treatments are offered in the Clinic?

Four concern-based facials: Dry skin, sensitive/rosacea/eczema, anti-ageing and anti-acne. Each runs from 30 to 90 minutes.

Speciality treatments: Wonder Lift, a non-invasive lifting facial, and the Detox Facial for oily, congested skin. Both are available as courses.

Body treatments: These include Indian head massage, the Chakra ritual and back massage.

All treatment begins with a 60-minute consultation — a full skin analysis and a plan. The routines on this site are the ones prescribed in clinic.

What makes The Naked Chemist different?

Proven by skin science. Powered by nature.

Clinical and natural are usually presented as a choice. We don’t formulate that way — skin responds to what’s in the bottle, not to which category an ingredient came from.

So our formulas pair evidence-based actives — ceramides, niacinamide, peptides, retinoids, hyaluronic acid — with New Zealand botanicals.

Everything is natural and cruelty-free, and formulated without the ingredients that provoke reactive skin: no synthetic fragrance, no sulfates, no denatured alcohol.

Product Information

Which Moisturiser is Right For Me?

Fortify barrier repair cream — Dry, combination, and sensitive skin; redness; and a barrier that needs rebuilding.

Quench plumping peptide gel — Dehydrated, dry and sensitive skin, and combination or oily skin that needs water rather than oil. A gel texture, so it hydrates without adding richness — which also makes it the best choice for oily skin or enlarged pores and congestion.

Reset age-defying cream — For severely dry and mature skin, and the visible signs of ageing.

Two moisturisers, or one? If your T-zone shines and your cheeks flake, you have combination skin. So use gel where you shine and the cream where you’re dry.

What is the Shelf Life of Your Products?

Eighteen months, stored somewhere cool and dark.

Please note that heat and daylight shorten the life of a natural formulation.

Does The Naked Chemist Recommend Sunscreen Products?

Yes — mineral zinc oxide, SPF 30 or above, every single morning.

Zinc oxide sits on the surface and reflects UV rather than absorbing it, which makes it the right choice for reactive, inflamed, pigmented, and post-treatment skin. It’s also anti-inflammatory, so it does two jobs at once.

Every day, in every season, UV drives pigmentation, degrades the lipids in your skin’s protective barrier and causes around ninety per cent of environmental ageing.

A note on SPF numbers. A higher SPF in a mineral formula means more zinc, not more chemicals — the filter is the same either way. If a sunscreen irritates your skin, the problem is almost always a chemical filter, a fragrance or an alcohol, not the number on the front.

Our SPF Skin Shot is coming shortly. Until it arrives, look for a fragrance-free physical zinc oxide formula at SPF 30

Ingredients

What natural ingredients do you use in your formulas

New Zealand botanicals, sourced close to home and harvested at peak potency — as this is the point at which a plant contains the most of what we want from it.

We hand-harvest at peak potency and combine clinical actives with potent botanicals, infusing them into clean clinical formulas to magnify their potency and effectiveness. This clinical-meets-wild combination amplifies results and solves skin challenges at the deepest level.

When applied to your skin, they behave much as they do in nature — delivering antioxidants, nutrients and regenerative nourishment that supports your skin’s own repair.

Why Do You Use Skin-identical Ingredients in Your Formulas?

At the core of our philosophy is the principle of treating ‘like with like’. As a living organ, your skin works synergistically with these ingredients, which integrate and metabolise to support its health and vitality.

Skin-identical ingredients are substances your skin produces naturally. When applied topically, your skin recognises them — which is why they integrate like a lock and a key and are well tolerated.

Your barrier is built from three:

  • Fatty acids
  • Ceramides
  • Cholesterol

Beneath it sits your natural moisturising factor — the humectants that hold water in the upper layers:

  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Glycerin
  • Sodium PCA
  • Lactic acid
  • Amino acids

Your skin makes less of all of these with age, and loses them faster when your barrier is compromised. Replacing them topically is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your skin.

Are Your Products Tested on Animals?

Are your products tested on animals?

No. None of our formulas are tested on animals.

Samantha has been vegetarian for most of her life, and she built the range on that basis.

What preservatives do you use in your products?

We use naturally derived preservatives and no parabens.

Preservation isn’t optional. Anything containing water will grow bacteria, yeast, and mould, and a contaminated cream is a real risk to your skin. Preservative-free” is a claim to be wary of.

What matters is choosing a system that protects the formula without irritating your skin.

Does The Naked Chemist use fragrance or essential oils in their formulas?

We use no fragrance and use essential oils only in three products where they genuinely complement the skin.

Samantha trained for two years in clinical aromatherapy under Shirley Price, following three years in beauty and spa management — which means the choice is made on molecular structure rather than on scent.

Barrier Repair Balm — blue tansy, for its chamazulene. That’s the compound that gives the oil its deep blue colour, and it is one of the most calming constituents in aromatherapy — which is why blue tansy is among the best-tolerated essential oils for reactive skin.

Reset age-defying cream — Pure Rose. Antioxidant-rich and traditionally used on dry and mature skin, it is one of the gentlest oils there is.

C+ — Contains cold-pressed mandarin. Vitamin C has a distinctive smell, and mandarin is one of the few citrus oils that isn’t phototoxic.

Everything else in the range is free of essential oils and synthetic fragrance, and can be used anywhere.

There are occasional variations in product colour. Why?

Our botanicals and cold-pressed oils are agricultural, not synthetic. Colour and scent shift with the harvest and the season. Rosehip oil ranges from pale gold to deep orange. Blue tansy darkens. Clay varies batch to batch because it is mined from natural minerals.

As the end user, note that these variations are purely cosmetic. They do not affect how your formulation performs.

Recommended routines

Which routine is right for my skin?

Every skin is different, but the order you apply things in isn’t. Cleanse, treat, hydrate, protect. What changes is which products sit in each step, and that depends on what your skin is dealing with.

We’ve built a routine page for each concern. Each one sets out morning and evening in order, explains why each step is there, and tells you what to expect in the first few weeks.

Face

  • Acne — congestion, breakouts, active inflammation
  • Rosacea — flushing, persistent redness, reactivity
  • Perioral dermatitis — rash around the mouth, nose or eyes
  • Eczema — dryness, itch, compromised skin
  • Sensitive skin — skin that reacts easily to products or environment
  • Dry skin — tightness, flaking, lack of oil
  • Oily skin — shine, congestion, enlarged pores
  • Combination skin — oily through the centre, dry at the edges
  • Dark spots and discolouration — sun damage, melasma, marks left by breakouts
  • Mature skin — loss of firmness, fine lines, dullness
  • Post-treatment — after needling, peels or laser

Body

  • Keratosis pilaris — rough bumps on the arms, thighs or back

Not sure which one applies to you?

Most people fit more than one, and that’s normal. Start with whatever bothers you most — the routines share a common structure, so you can adjust as your skin settles.

If you’d rather have someone take a look, we offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation. Book here.
