This policy explains what personal information The Naked Chemist Ltd collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have.

We are based in New Zealand and comply with the Privacy Act 2020. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, we also comply with the UK GDPR and EU GDPR for your information.

What we collect

When you order from us, subscribe, or get in touch, we collect your name, email address, phone number, delivery and billing addresses, your order history, and anything you tell us in an email, contact form, consultation or review.

When you use our website, we automatically collect your IP address, browser and device type, which pages you visited, and how you arrived at our site.

We do not collect or store your card details. Our payment providers handle payments. Your card number goes directly into their systems and never passes through ours.

You don’t have to give us any of this. But if you don’t give us a delivery address, we can’t send you an order.

Why we use it

  • To fulfil your order — take payment, ship it, and sort out any problems afterwards. We need this to perform our contract with you.
  • To reply to you when you contact us.
  • To send you marketing emails, if you’ve asked us to. You can unsubscribe from any email, and we’ll stop.
  • To improve our website and products — understanding which pages people read and what they buy. We rely on our legitimate interest in running the business, balanced against your privacy.
  • To meet our legal obligations — tax and consumer law require us to keep records of what we sold and to whom.

We do not sell, rent or lease your information to anyone.

Who we share it with

Only the companies that help us run the business, and only as far as they need it to do their job:

  • Payment processing — so we can take payment securely
  • Shipping and delivery — so your order reaches you, and so you can track it
  • Website hosting and email — so the site works and we can reply to you
  • Email marketing — so we can send you the emails you’ve subscribed to
  • Website analytics — so we can understand how the site is used

These companies are contractually required to protect your information and may not use it for their own purposes.

If you’d like to know which specific providers we currently use, email us and we’ll let you know.

We will also disclose information where the law requires it — a court order or a lawful request from a regulator or enforcement agency.

Where your information goes

Some of the companies above are outside New Zealand, so your information may be stored or processed overseas, including in Australia, the United States and the European Union.

Where we transfer information out of New Zealand, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives comparable protection, as the Privacy Act 2020 requires. For transfers out of the UK or EU, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

How long we keep it

  • Order records — seven years, as New Zealand tax law requires
  • Marketing subscriptions — until you unsubscribe, then we keep a record of the unsubscribe so we don’t email you again
  • Enquiries and correspondence — two years
  • Website analytics — two months

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask what we hold about you and get a copy, ask us to correct anything wrong, and unsubscribe from marketing at any time.

If you are in the UK or EU, you can also ask us to delete your information, restrict how we use it, object to our use of it, or send it to another provider in a portable format. You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

If you are in New Zealand, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

To exercise any of these, email info@thenakedchemist.com. We’ll respond within 20 working days.

Cookies and analytics

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. We use them to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, and understand how you use the site.

Essential cookies make the site function — your cart, your login, checkout security. The site won’t work without them.

Analytics cookies tell us which pages people read and where they came from. We use Google Analytics for this. Google explains how it handles that data here.

Most browsers accept cookies automatically, and you can change that in your browser settings. If you block them, parts of the site may stop working properly.

Children

Our products and website are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us, and we’ll delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure and alteration. Information sent to and from our site is encrypted in transit.

No system is completely secure. If a breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

Links to other websites

Our site links to other websites. This policy doesn’t cover them, and we aren’t responsible for how they handle your information. We’d suggest reading their privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the last updated date at the top. If we make a significant change to how we use your information, we’ll let you know.

In reading your articles and many posts, I’m now convinced I suffer from a damaged barrier on my face. Nothing works. I’ve literally spent thousands of dollars on doctors and products. What products do you suggest I start with for dry, flaky, sensitive and inflamed patches on face?
