Caution – I am having a blonde moment,
Please speak slowly and use small words
They say blondes have more fun, and that’s true when you have a flowing flaxen mane reminiscent of golden thread.
But when it comes to caring for your blonde tresses that’s not always the case; a mere swim in a pool can take you from ‘Goldilocks’ to ‘Greenylocks’ in minutes.
To get that beautiful yellow mane it’s easy to turn to chemicals like peroxide or purple rinses, all which are usually laden with some pretty nasty chemicals.
The following recipes will help to put life back into your natural blonde hair, without the use of damaging ingredients.
Chamomile mask
Take 100g of chamomile flowers and steep them in a pan of boiling water for around 20 minutes. Once the water cools down strain and put into a spritz bottle, spray your hair from root to end and then cover your hair in your favourite conditioner and if possible, sit in the sun until it’s dry.
Repeat this procedure every day, until your hair begins to develop natural blonde highlights.
Coconut oil and turmeric mask
Tumeric the yellow spice has some serious dying qualities.
For golden blonde highlights, put a tablespoon of turmeric in a cup of melted coconut oil and apply it on your hair from root to tip. Cover with a cap and then wrap with a towel and leave for 30 minutes. Once you wash it off, remember to use some conditioner, as the spice can dry your hair.
Please be careful with turmeric as the ‘blonding’ effect can be very intense.
Coconut oil is a little known, hero ingredient for your hair, so much so that we have written a whole article on it, which you can read about here.
Argan oil conditioner
This oil is one of the most beneficial for blondes. The yellowish-ochre coloured oil contains high levels of Vitamins and fatty acids, so it not only lightens and brightens but feeds your hair and your scalp with moisturising nourishment, too.
Apply 1/4 cup of argan oil to your hair and leave on for 30 minutes or longer and then shampoo it out. You should find your hair is just that more shiny, golden, and hydrated.
Manuka honey conditioner
Honey can naturally lighten your hair without damaging it. In fact, it even nourishes your scalp. Honey is also a natural humectant, so it will help to hydrate your hair. Before you begin, make sure you are using dark manuka honey, as this has more natural peroxide.
Combine 1/3 cup honey with 1/3 cup conditioner/1/3 warm distilled water and 1 tsp cinnamon. Mix well, and apply through your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap
It is important to note that honey lightens your hair more slowly than many other methods, so you will have to repeat the process a few times.
The Beer Spritz
Here’s a classic way to care for blonde hair naturally.
Arm yourself with a can of pale ale and pour it into a big bowl. Leaning over the bowl immerse your hair wait 5 minutes and cover your hair in a shower cap or towel. After an hour, you’ll notice how the hops in the beer have nourished and conditioned your hair.
Cinnamon roots rinse
Cinnamon can significantly lighten blonde hair, but it takes time. Make a paste of three tablespoons of the spice and mix it with the recipe’s ingredients lightening dark blonde roots.
Apply to your hair and cover with a shower cap and then wrap with a towel. Leave on for at least 8 hours, or preferably overnight, then shampoo and condition as normal. Repeat several times through the week until you’re as blonde as you want to be.
