Homemade Hair Treatments

Put the oooh into la la la.

There is a lot of truth in the old cliche, “having a bad hair day”.

If you feel bad about how your hair looks and feels, it can really affect your morale and mood.

Hair that is dull and lifeless reflects poor health, and shiny hair, with plenty of bounce, reflects a vibrant, healthy glow.

So, if you feel that your tresses are in serious need of a destress, look no further.

Give your locks the TLC they need, with these simple yet effective hair treatments.

Homemade Hair Treatments

Vanilla Rum Hair Cocktail

This is one of those homemade hair treatments that contains a decadent array of ingredients that will put the bounce back into lifeless hair.

  • 1/4 cup of rum
  • 1/2 cup beer
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1/4 tsp lemon extract
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of water

Mix all the ingredients in a blender, massage deeply into the scalp, and everyone say, “ahhhhh”.

Leave on your hair for about ten minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

Sesame Coconut Conditioner

The vitamins in sesame oil have fabulous hair-restoring properties, making it one of those hair treatments you can’t resist:

  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 2 tbs sesame oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp coconut milk

Mix in a blender and apply to your hair with a mask brush, section by section.

Leave on for fifteen minutes, giving the vitamins and oil time to work their magic, revealing beautifully soft, hydrated hair.

How could you resist this most natural treatment, with all of its moisturising goodness?

Hydrating Hair Mask

If it is intense moisturisation you’re after, then look no further.

This is a homemade hair treatment that will thoroughly moisturise the hair; penetrating the cuticle, whilst re-hydrating the hair shaft.

Blend into a cream and slowly massage the mask deep into the scalp; this will help nourish your hair down to the root, aiding penetration and stimulating cellular rejuvenation.

Next, wrap your hair in a towel, allowing the heat to penetrate deep into the follicle. After around twenty minutes, rinse out to reveal beautiful, sleek, conditioned hair.

Hot Oil Scalp Treatment

This is a straightforward recipe made of jojoba oil, a botanical oil that has a real affinity with your hair:

  • to get the full benefit from this treatment, first, warm the jojoba oil in a microwave
  • then, separate your hair into sections and apply the oil down the hair shaft, starting at the scalp line
  • next, massage the oil deep into the scalp to aid penetration
  • leave the oil on the scalp for at least 20 minutes, or ideally as a hair mask overnight

This will help your hair to get all of the jojoba’s nourishing and moisturising properties.

Finish with a Rinse

We feel an article on homemade hair treatments would not be complete without giving good old-fashioned Cider Vinegar a mention. This is a straightforward but effective treatment that acts as a clarifying agent. Cider vinegar helps remove the build-up of certain hair care products from the hair shaft, so your hair absorbs all the wonderful nutrients from your homemade hair treatments.
