Homemade facial scrub recipes

Facial scrubs can instantly brighten dull, dry skin, removing dead skin cells, and surface build-up to reveal healthy skin.

The following homemade facial scrub recipes can be easily adapted to target specific skin types such as dryness, or blemishes and better yet, they are simple, fun, and effective to make, but above all they are natural.

So let’s get busy with lovely botanical’s, to make a really effective facial scrub, and be sure to apply the following procedures to the recipes below:

  • In a small bowl mix together the dry ingredients and oils
  • Next, add the water ingredients to the blend

  • 1 tbsp natural yogurt
  • 1 tbsp fine oatmeal
  • 1 tbsp bran
  • 1-2 tbsp witch hazel
  • 1 drop orange essential oil

Mediterranean skin scrub

This is a great little formula for a mature skin type:

  • 75tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tsp of castor sugar
  • 1 drop sandalwood essential oil
  • 1 drop frankincense essential oil

Healing Rose Scrub

A lovely gentle homemade facial scrub, for even the most sensitive of skin types:

  • 1 tbsp fine oatmeal
  • 1 tbsp bran
  • 2 drops rose hydrosol
  • 1 drop rose geranium
  • 1 drop german chamomile

Lemon Tea Tree Scrub

This is a great formula for oily, combination skin:

  • 2 tbsp bran
  • 2 tbsp fine oatmeal
  • 1- 2 tbsp yogurt
  • 1 – 2 tbsp water
  • 1 drop lemon essential oil
  • 1 drop tea tree essential oil

Honey and oatmeal scrub

A lovely softening facial scrub recipe, that is perfect for dry and parched skin:

  • 2 tbsp fine oatmeal
  • 1 tbsp wild honey
  • 1 tbsp wheat germ
  • 1 – 2 tbs milk
  • 1 drop roman chamomile essential oil

Gentle enzymatic exfoliating scrub

  • 1 tbsp papaya enzymes
  • 1 tbsp rice powder
  • 1 tbsp chamomile powder
  • 1/2 tbsp yellow clay
  • 1/2 tbsp fullers earth
  • Mix with enough water to make a paste

It is really important when making your own homemade facial scrubs that you avoid exfoliating ingredients like walnut shells – they are not completely spherical in shape and can cause tiny micro-tears in the skin, disrupting the protective barrier function which can lead to inflammation.
