Working as an aesthetician, I use a proactive approach to ageing, which is based on prevention.
In the past, research has focussed on treating the manifestations of skin ageing, such as pigmentation, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. We now know that three primary triggers are responsible for skin ageing:
The first trigger: Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) trigger a slow, continuous release of free radicals in the skin, accelerating skin ageing. To fight ROS, antioxidants such as Co-enzyme Q10 and Vinanza grape trap these reactive molecules, quenching them before they cause greater, chronic inflammation.
The second trigger: The stimulation of Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs). Exposure to UV radiation is a key factor in stimulating MMP activity, which causes collagen synthesis to shut down. Natural MMP inhibitors exist in the skin but decline with age. The addition of bioflavonoids, including the proanthocyanins from Grape Seed Extract, polyphenols in White Teas, and Soy phytoestrogens – all found within Immortelle – help to control MMP activity.
The third trigger: The formation of Advanced Glycation End-Products (AGEs). When sugar enters our bloodstream, it reacts with proteins, causing a glycation reaction that breaks down collagen. Research has found that the Soy active, Genistein, works as a sugar trap; binding to the sugar in your body makes it unable to react with proteins.
With this knowledge, we have created this preventative skin solution that helps to stop these three biochemical reactions before they start repairing DNA, to positively affect the way our genes produce collagen, reduces its degradation and reverses cellular ageing by increasing dermal thickness, thus minimising fine lines and wrinkles.
