Essential Oils are the Natural Approach to Glowing Skin

I’m passionate about natural skincare.

As the founder of NC, I have always sought out pure, plant-based ingredients.

To help me achieve dewy, healthy, glowing skin.

Essential oils are one of my favourite ways to have a natural approach to glowing skin.

They are highly concentrated plant extracts that contain the plant’s beneficial compounds.

When used in skincare, they can address various concerns, such as ageing, acne, dryness, and inflammation.

In addition to skincare, essential oils like Aromatherapy oils for diffusers can provide aromatherapy benefits for a holistic self-care routine.

In this article, I discuss essential oils that have a natural affinity for the skin.

Natural Approach to Glowing Skin

Lavender Oil

Soothes Irritation

Lavender oil is well-known for its calming and soothing properties, which extend to the skin.

Lavender oil can help reduce the redness, itching, and inflammation associated with eczema and psoriasis. I like adding a few drops to my moisturiser or carrier oil and applying them to irritated areas.

Promotes Relaxation

The soft, floral scent of lavender is incredibly relaxing. Using lavender oil in your skincare routine, especially at night, can help you unwind and destress, promoting healthier skin.

Fights Acne

Lavender also has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that can combat acne-causing bacteria on the skin. To help clear up breakouts, dilute a drop of lavender oil in your facial cleanser or spot-treat blemishes with it.

Tea Tree Oil

Powerful Acne Treatment

Tea tree oil is one of the most effective essential oils for treating acne and oily skin. Its strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help kill acne bacteria, unclog pores, and reduce acne lesions. I apply diluted tea tree oil as a spot treatment or add a few drops to my clay face masks.

Balances Oily Skin

Tea tree oil can help regulate sebum production and mattify shine if you have oily or combination skin. Add a drop to your moisturiser or toner and apply it to oily areas like the T-zone.

Soothes Irritation

Like lavender, tea tree oil can calm irritated skin and reduce itching and inflammation. It’s an excellent choice for soothing insect bites, rashes, and sunburns.

Frankincense Oil

Powerful Anti-Ageing Effects

Frankincense oil is prized for its potent anti-ageing benefits. It can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots by promoting cell turnover and regeneration. I like adding a few drops of frankincense to my facial serums and oils.

Firms and Tightens

Frankincense can also help firm and tighten the skin, improving elasticity and tone. For best results, use it consistently in your skincare routine.

Fades Scars and Dark Spots

Frankincense oil’s regenerative properties can help fade scars, dark spots, and other types of hyperpigmentation. Apply it directly to affected areas or add it to your daily moisturiser.

Geranium Oil

Balances Skin

Geranium oil is excellent for balancing and harmonising all skin types. It can reduce excess oil in oily skin types while hydrating and nourishing dry skin.

Regulates Oil Production

Geranium oil helps regulate the skin’s natural oil production, keeping the skin balanced and less prone to breakouts and irritation. I add a drop to my face oils to help keep my combination skin happy.

Promotes Radiance

Geranium oil revitalises dull, tired-looking skin and promotes a glowing complexion. Use it regularly for more radiant, even-toned skin.

Rose Essential Oil

Nourishing and Hydrating

Rose is a beautiful, nourishing oil that is excellent for dry, dehydrated, and mature skin types.

Softens Skin Texture

Rose oil’s nourishing properties can help soften rough, textured skin and improve its smoothness and suppleness. I love using it with rose hip seed oil as a night facial oil to wake up to baby-soft skin.

Reduces Signs of Ageing

Rose essential oil can reduce visible signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles. Use it consistently to maintain a youthful, glowing complexion.

How to Use Essential Oils Safely

While essential oils offer many skin benefits, using them safely is crucial to avoid irritation and sensitivity. Here are some tips:

  • Always dilute essential oils in carrier oils like jojoba, coconut, or rosehip before applying them to the skin. A good rule of thumb is 2-3 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil.
  • Before using essential oil for the first time, patch test a small area of skin to check for allergies or sensitivities.
  • Avoid applying essential oils to broken, irritated, or severely sensitive skin.
  • Don’t use essential oils around the delicate eye area.
  • Stop using an essential oil if you experience redness, burning, itching or irritation.

To conclude. The naked truth

Essential oils are an excellent option if you are looking for a natural approach to glowing skin.

Whether you want to target specific concerns like acne and ageing or wish to nourish and pamper your skin, an essential oil can help.

As with any skincare ingredient, essential oils must be used safely and adequately for the best results.

And remember, a little goes a long way!

Just a few drops of these potent oils can transform your skincare routine and give you the glowing, radiant skin you deserve.
