I have dedicated my career to finding solutions to common skin conditions that plague many of my clients.

Setting out this 10-day detox for many of my clients and combining it with natural, healing topical products, I have seen some really impressive results on those with extremely stubborn skin conditions.

The detox plan is not complicated; foods are easy to prepare with simple choices; the foods recommended are what we’ve been programmed to thrive on since the beginning of human evolution.

You will see a lot of fruit in this diet because it is virtually self-digesting – therefore, it uses only a tiny fraction of energy for digestion – your body can then use this ‘saving’ in energy for other metabolic functions.

Eating protein or starchy foods will halt the detoxification process in your body, allowing toxins to accumulate in your cells, so keep them to a minimum.

Foods to Avoid

  1. Dairy products.
  2. Breakfast cereals.
  3. Processed and refined foods.
  4. Coffee, carbonated drinks and alcohol.
  5. Hydrogenated vegetable oils and margarine.
  6. Wheat in any form such as bread, biscuits, cakes, pizza etc
  7. Salt, substitute instead with fresh herbs, cider vinegar and lemon juice.
  8. Sugar and artificial sweeteners. If you have a sweet tooth, substitute it with stevia.

Foods You Can Eat

You will notice a lot of the detox diet cleanse is based around fruit; they are virtually self-digesting, which allows your liver to continue with the detoxification process unimpeded.

Select self-digesting, detoxification fruits such as apple, watermelon, papaya, pineapple, or grapes, to eat throughout the day. This will allow your liver to continue with the detoxification process unimpeded.

Don’t mix it with other fruits if you want to eat melon. Eat it on its own.

Ensure your meals are rich in salads, vegetables, and sprouts; it’s the best way to get the optimal support your skin requires for building healthy cells and tissues. It also helps to rebalance biochemical processes and restore normal metabolism in your body.

From this list, you can eat avocados, all salad leaves, beetroots, carrots, celery, onions of all varieties, peppers, spinach, sprouts, watercress, etc.

You should only eat one starchy vegetable with each meal, such as beetroot, carrot, pumpkin, boiled or baked potato, sweet potato, or squash.

When considering detox drinks, you can choose lemon juice to kick start your liver or any herbal tea such as chamomile, lemon balm and Gotu kola detox tea, which will help increase your blood supply and form your skin’s connective tissue.

If you are a coffee drinker, green tea contains a small amount of caffeine – which can help with some uncomfortable cleansing reactions that may occur temporarily when you first stop drinking coffee.

Important note

Detox for liver is essential, so make your last meal of the day around six pm, and then only drink herbal tea for the rest of the evening.

Allowing 4 to 5 hours between your lunch and dinner and between your dinner and bedtime gives your digestive system needs time to complete the digestion of a meal before you load it again.  Otherwise, digestion won’t be complete, and increased toxicity can occur.

If your dinner is late beyond four or five hours and you are hungry, have a piece of fruit.

Day one to three

The first is a 3-day detox for clear skin.

Breakfast is a Fruit Meal

Breakfast is essential as it encourages the continued rapid elimination of stored wastes. Choose one detoxification fruit or a combination of two, as discussed above.

Given the provision of the rule above. Because your liver is the most important organ for detoxification, it is most active between midnight and midday.

Have a glass of pure water, herbal tea, and lemon juice to boost your liver and balance your body’s pH.

Before showering, carry out dry brushing techniques that will encourage eliminating toxins that may have built up in your lymph system.

Mid-Morning Snack (Optional)

A glass of pure water or a cup of green tea or herbal tea.

You can have fruit, but ensure you allow 20 minutes before lunch. If you want a banana, have it 45 minutes before you have your lunch.

Lunch is a Salad

Both lunch and dinner are interchangeable.

Start your lunch with a raw vegetable salad dressed in olive, avocado or flaxseed oil; use fresh herbs, cider vinegar or lemon to taste.

Make the portion size the size of your fist.

Have a glass of pure water or herbal tea.

Mid Afternoon Snack (Optional)

A glass of water or a cup of herbal tea.

If you want a snack, have a small apple, pear or a handful of walnuts or macadamia nuts.

If you just wanted to try a 3-day detox diet for clear skin, you could repeat this as often.

Day four to eight

Begin to introduce starch into your diet.

This next part of your diet allows the detoxification process to continue naturally whilst slowly introducing more foods, ensuring your newly-cleansed cells are nourished with all the vitamins, enzymes and minerals required, fortifying and re-balancing your body.

Continue with your breakfast, mid-morning snacks, lunch and mid-afternoon snacks.

Keep drinking the lemon water and body brush techniques upon waking to stimulate your lymph and liver.

For dinner, eat a meal of steamed or stir-fried vegetables using herbs and soy sauce for variety.  You can introduce one starchy food such as beetroot, carrot, pumpkin, boiled or baked potato, sweet potato, or squash.

A serving of lentils or brown basmati rice is acceptable if you require more substantial food.

Day nine to ten

Begin to introduce more cooked food during the last two days, but each of your meals should still focus on raw, uncooked foods.

Still, continue with the lemon water and body brush techniques upon waking.

Start introducing nutritious muesli served with nuts, seeds, and yoghurt for breakfast.

Snacks and lunch are the same as on days four to eight.

Start your dinner with a mixed green salad, ensuring the portion size is about a quarter of your plate.

Add raw or lightly steamed vegetables making the portion size about half of your plate.

Now you can begin to introduce a portion of protein. 

  • Fish, preferably omega-3-rich salmon, tuna, mackerel, or sardines.
  • Chicken or turkey breast. Make sure you remove the skin.
  • A 3-egg omelette. Or 2-3 poached or boiled eggs.

The portion size must be no bigger than the size of your palm.

Have a glass of pure water or a cup of herbal tea.


By doing this skin detox diet, you are ensuring your skin is in the best condition and improving your health – after all, we are what we eat.
